Researcher in philosophy and psychiatry

 

Focus: Phenomenology, enactivism, philosophy of psychiatry, affordances (ecological psychology), cognitive neuroscience, qualitative research methods

 

I currently work as a PhD researcher at the Department of Psychiatry of the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam. I investigate the phenomenological changes of psychiatric patients following treatment with Deep Brain Stimulation.

From 2007 to 2011 I worked as a Marie Curie Fellow of the Research Training Network DISCOS (Disorders and Coherence of the Embodied Self), at the section Phenomenological Psychopathology and Psychotherapy, at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Heidelberg. I conducted empirical research using the EASE instrument (Examination of Anomalous Self-Experience) with young, first-admitted schizophrenic patients.

My background is in philosophy (BA & MA at the University of Amsterdam, both cum laude) and existential humanistic counseling (BA at the University for Humanistics in Utrecht, cum laude).
